A smart media platform that lets you search your entire visual library ...

...in natural language—and even grow it in style.

Confidence
Engagement
Net use signal
Net buy signal

Idea type: Freemium

People love using similar products but resist paying. You’ll need to either find who will pay or create additional value that’s worth paying for.

Should You Build It?

Build but think about differentiation and monetization.

Your are here

Your idea for a smart media platform that uses natural language to search and grow a visual library aligns with the "Freemium" model. This means people generally appreciate and are willing to use tools like yours, but converting them to paying customers can be a challenge. The existence of 11 similar products indicates a good level of market interest, so you're on to something, but also means the competition is significant. The medium engagement (average 6 comments), combined with neutral signals for both net use and net buy, underscores the importance of differentiating your platform and finding compelling reasons for users to upgrade to a paid version.

Recommendations

  1. Given the freemium nature of similar products, focus on identifying the user segments that derive the most value from the free version of your platform. Understanding their specific pain points and use cases will inform the development of premium features tailored to their needs. Consider what power users or professional users of visual content would be willing to pay extra for.
  2. Based on the first recommendation, create premium features that offer tangible benefits, such as enhanced search capabilities, advanced editing tools, team collaboration features, or increased storage capacity. Make sure these features address the specific needs of your target premium users, and go beyond simple cosmetic improvements.
  3. Explore the possibility of charging teams or organizations rather than individual users. Businesses often have larger budgets and are more willing to pay for features that improve team collaboration, streamline workflows, or enhance brand consistency. Encord Active is mentioned to be lacking consumer focus, so avoid this.
  4. Offer personalized help, onboarding, or consulting services to premium users. This could include training sessions, dedicated support channels, or customized workflows. This not only provides additional value but also helps build stronger relationships with your most valuable customers. Similar to other products, such as Chance AI, you could assist the visually impaired.
  5. Experiment with different pricing strategies and feature bundles to find the optimal combination that maximizes conversions. Use A/B testing or other data-driven methods to assess the impact of different approaches on user behavior and revenue. For example, offer limited-time discounts or free trials of premium features to entice users to upgrade.
  6. Pay close attention to user feedback and iterate on your platform based on their needs and suggestions. Encourage users to submit feature requests and bug reports, and actively respond to their comments and questions. This will not only improve the quality of your platform but also foster a sense of community and loyalty among your user base.
  7. Given that some similar products received criticism for text-based search tools encountering difficulties, invest heavily in the AI powering your natural language search. Ensure it can handle complex queries, understand nuances in language, and accurately identify objects and concepts within images and videos. Google Lens is a great example to use as an example but improve upon.

Questions

  1. Considering the neutral 'buy' signal and the competition in the market, what specific, unique value proposition will convince users to upgrade from the free to the paid version of your platform, beyond just basic feature enhancements?
  2. Given the challenges some similar platforms face with obscure objects or complex meanings in visual search, how will you ensure your AI can accurately interpret a wide range of visual content and provide relevant search results?
  3. How will you proactively gather and analyze user feedback to identify areas for improvement and guide the development of new premium features, ensuring they align with the evolving needs of your target audience?

The maximum is +1, which means all comments (across all similar products) were positive, expressed a willingness to use & buy said product. The minimum is -1 and it means the exact opposite.

The y-axis captures the strength of the signal, i.e. how many people commented and how does this rank against other products in this category. The maximum is +1, which means these products were the most liked, upvoted and talked about launches recently. The minimum is 0, meaning zero engagement or feedback was received.

The sizes of the product dots are determined by the relevance to your idea, where 10 is the maximum.

Self-hosted natural language search for videos and images

Hi, I am Anubhav from ramanlabs. We have been working on a self hosted solution to enable natural language search for videos and images. Idea is to allow users to Index all locally available images and videos just once, and then later query them using natural language. It doesn't depend on any deep-learning framework and should make installation easier and faster. All Indices are stored locally without no dependence on outside network. Semantic search is powered by CLIP architecture. We already have some features on the roadmap and are interested in hearing your feedback/thoughts.Github: <https://github.com/ramanlabs-in/hachi> Demo: <https://demo.ramanlabs.in>
