an assistant to execute and track defi transactions, and combine them

Confidence

Net use signal
Net buy signal

Idea type: Freemium

People love using similar products but resist paying. You’ll need to either find who will pay or create additional value that’s worth paying for.

Should You Build It?

Build but think about differentiation and monetization.

Your are here

Your idea for a DeFi transaction assistant falls into the 'Freemium' category. This means users see value in these tools, but often hesitate to pay for them outright. With 9 similar products already out there and medium engagement (avg 6 comments), competition is definitely present. The comments across similar products are overall positive. To succeed, you'll need a strong differentiation strategy and a clear path to monetization. The good news is that many users are actively exploring DeFi tools, so there's an audience for your product, but you need to carefully consider how to convert free users into paying customers while dealing with the existing competition.

Recommendations

  1. Start by deeply understanding which user segments benefit most from the free version of your DeFi assistant. Analyze usage patterns to identify power users who are ripe for conversion. Focus on their needs and pain points to inform your premium feature development.
  2. Develop premium features that provide significant added value for those power users. This could include advanced analytics, automated strategy optimization, or exclusive access to curated DeFi opportunities. The discussion around DeFi Lens shows that users appreciate tools that improve their trading strategies and provide insightful data.
  3. Explore team-based pricing models if your tool is suitable for collaborative use. Offering team licenses can be a more attractive monetization strategy than individual subscriptions, especially for DeFi investment groups or DAOs.
  4. Consider offering personalized onboarding, support, or DeFi consulting services as a premium offering. Many users, particularly those new to DeFi, would value expert guidance and assistance in navigating the complexities of the space. SEC, see you!, was praised for it's engaging UI. UI and UX will be important for onboarding in your project.
  5. Experiment with different pricing tiers and models with small groups of users before a full-scale launch. A/B test freemium vs. trial periods, usage-based pricing, or feature-locked tiers to determine the optimal approach. Sentio was praised for it's landing page. Make sure your landing page is well designed and converts.
  6. Pay close attention to user feedback from existing platforms like Rome Terminal, Valha, DeFi Lens, and Sentio. Identify unmet needs and pain points in their offerings, and use this information to differentiate your product and provide a superior user experience.
  7. Given that Valha's launch highlighted the ease of integration as a key selling point, prioritize seamless connectivity with various DeFi protocols and platforms. Make your API easy to use for developers who want to integrate the product.
  8. Create content showcasing use cases and tutorials for advanced features. Show potential users how your tool can save them time and improve their DeFi performance. DeFi Lens did this well through AI explanation generation.

Questions

  1. What specific unmet needs in the DeFi transaction management space can your assistant address better than existing solutions, and how will you demonstrate this value to potential paying customers?
  2. Given the freemium nature of this category, what innovative pricing strategies beyond traditional subscriptions could you implement to incentivize users to upgrade to premium features?
  3. How can you leverage community building and user feedback to continuously refine your product and ensure it remains a valuable tool for both free and paying users in the rapidly evolving DeFi landscape?

I made a crypto DeFi yield tracking in 3 days

03 Apr 2024 Crypto

Hey HN,An iOS dev trying his best to make a living as solopreneur. The mission for this year is to launch 12 iOS apps. This app started by a tweet as there were lots people trying to display crypto widgets on the iOS homescreen by following 5 steps which included downloading an app, adding a script, editing, etc.So after quoting that tweet and asking if were any interest for an app instead, I ended up building and releasing arbolito app to the AppStore in just 3 days. The first version included dollar rates in Argentina (yes, we have multiple exchange rates for the dollar, it's crazy) and stablecoins/btc/eth prices in pesos for all the LA CEXs. Later added more countries and CeFi yields.A week ago I've released L2 fees widgets with the gas/txs fees for Ethereum L2 and sidechains. Finally, a couple of days ago, I've launched a DeFi APYs tracking by chain (including Widget). So far it supports the most well known protocols on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, Optismim, Polygon, Gnosis and Avalanche.ps: It's free, no ads, no sign-ups, no tracking, no creepy stuff, etc.I hope you like arbolito. Would love your feedback please. Thanks.Pablo
