Your are here

Your idea of an online store selling socks for cats falls into a "Minimal Signal" category, meaning there's very little market activity currently. With only one similar product found, it's hard to gauge the true potential and demand for this specific niche. The existing similar product, an "AI Sock Designer," shows low engagement with an average of just one comment. Since there's no data on use or buy signals for similar products, you are sailing into uncharted waters where you must determine whether the lack of signal is because the product is truly unpopular, or if people just don't know about it yet. Tread carefully and gather concrete evidence of demand before investing heavily in this idea.

Recommendations

  1. Begin by identifying online communities where cat owners and enthusiasts gather (e.g., Reddit, Facebook groups, forums). Share your concept and designs to gauge initial interest and gather feedback on what shapes, colors, and materials appeal most to them. Don't just ask if they like the idea; ask about their cats' habits and preferences regarding clothing and accessories.
  2. Offer to create custom-designed socks for a small group of cat owners. This hands-on approach will provide valuable insights into the practical aspects of production, fitting, and cat acceptance. Document the entire process, from design to fitting, and use this content for marketing purposes later on.
  3. Create a short, engaging video showcasing the unique selling points of your cat socks (e.g., safety features, comfort, durability, fun designs). Share this video across your target audience groups and monitor views, shares, and comments to assess interest. Make sure it's high quality and addresses common concerns about cats wearing clothes.
  4. Gauge commitment by offering a waiting list with a small deposit to reserve a pair of custom-made socks. This will help you validate demand and secure initial funding for production. Be transparent about timelines and production challenges, and keep potential customers informed.
  5. Set a clear benchmark: if you can't secure 5-10 pre-orders within a month, it might be time to re-evaluate your approach or pivot to a different product within the pet accessories market. Don't be afraid to adjust your concept based on the feedback you receive.
  6. Based on the similar product, the AI Sock Designer, pay attention to the comments and criticisms the customers make, to improve your product and your service.

Questions

  1. What are the specific pain points or unmet needs you are addressing for cat owners with your unique sock designs?
  2. How will you differentiate your cat sock designs from existing pet apparel options and ensure they are safe, comfortable, and appealing to both cats and their owners?
  3. What are your plans for scaling production and distribution if you successfully validate initial demand, while maintaining quality and affordability?

The maximum is +1, which means all comments (across all similar products) were positive, expressed a willingness to use & buy said product. The minimum is -1 and it means the exact opposite.

The y-axis captures the strength of the signal, i.e. how many people commented and how does this rank against other products in this category. The maximum is +1, which means these products were the most liked, upvoted and talked about launches recently. The minimum is 0, meaning zero engagement or feedback was received.

The sizes of the product dots are determined by the relevance to your idea, where 10 is the maximum.

Your idea is the big blueish dot, which should lie somewhere in the polygon defined by these products. It can be off-center because we use custom weighting to summarize these metrics.

AI Sock Designer

10 Dec 2023 Fashion

Hey y'all, we wanted to share a project that we've been working on in our spare time this year. Although we still have a list of improvements to make, we feel like it's finally at a point where we could share this with people and hopefully get some use and feedback. It's kind of a silly idea, but we think Socky is the start of something game-changing in the fashion industry. We want to put the power of design and manufacturing in the hands of the consumer so that they can create bespoke, personalized versions of any item of clothing that they're able to describe, in a matter of seconds - starting with socks. We would love to hear what you think about Socky, and if you're interested in working with us, we're looking to find people who are at the intersection of AI and manufacturing and are pumped about the impact this could have on the world of fashion and, ultimately, sustainability.Cheers, Seb and Max.

Introducing Socky, a customizable clothing design project.

List of improvements to make.
