an event app for conference organizers to help connect attendees

Confidence
Engagement
Net use signal
Net buy signal

Idea type: Freemium

People love using similar products but resist paying. You’ll need to either find who will pay or create additional value that’s worth paying for.

Should You Build It?

Build but think about differentiation and monetization.

Your are here

You're entering a crowded space with your event app for conference organizers, as we found 16 similar products. The good news is that the average engagement for these apps is medium, which means people are interested in solutions that help connect attendees at events. However, the freemium nature of the 'Event App' category suggests that users are hesitant to pay. You'll need to identify ways to differentiate your app and provide compelling reasons for organizers (or attendees) to upgrade to a paid version. Focus on building features that clearly enhance the event experience and justify a premium price point. Given the competition, it's crucial to find a niche or unique selling proposition to stand out.

Recommendations

  1. First, focus on identifying which event organizers and attendees derive the most value from free versions of similar event apps. What are their pain points, and what features do they heavily rely on? This will inform your understanding of where to create premium, value-added features.
  2. Next, design premium features that directly address the needs of those high-value users. For example, if large conferences struggle with networking, offer AI-powered matchmaking and personalized connection recommendations as a paid feature. Consider integrating features to facilitate pre-event connections, which was a recurring positive point in the discussion summary of LeadrPro.
  3. Explore a business model that targets teams or organizations rather than individual attendees. Conference organizers may be willing to pay for a platform that streamlines event management and enhances the experience for all participants. As suggested in the EventConnect criticism summary, social media integration and analytics dashboards could be valuable additions for organizers.
  4. Consider offering personalized support, onboarding, or consulting services to event organizers who need extra help setting up and managing their events within the app. This can be a high-margin revenue stream and can also help you build deeper relationships with your customers.
  5. Before committing to a single pricing strategy, test different approaches with smaller groups of users or pilot events. Experiment with tiered pricing, feature-based pricing, or even value-based pricing to see what resonates best with your target audience. Given the discussion around LeadrPro, consider the pricing tiers and differentiation between your offering and existing solutions early on.
  6. Analyze competitor criticism, like the UI feedback for LeadrPro, and proactively address potential shortcomings in your app's design and functionality. Ensure your app is user-friendly and visually appealing.
  7. Given the requests for integrations with platforms like Eventbrite and Meetup, prioritize integrations with popular event management and social platforms. This can streamline the event planning process for organizers and enhance the overall experience for attendees.
  8. Consider the feedback that Meetup lacks features for spontaneous social meetups and potentially build features that cater to this need, differentiating you from established competitors.

Questions

  1. Given the freemium nature of the market, what specific premium features can you offer that are so compelling that event organizers would be willing to upgrade, even if they can get basic functionality for free?
  2. How will you differentiate your event app from the numerous existing solutions, and what unique value proposition will you offer to attract both event organizers and attendees?
  3. Considering the mixed feedback on similar platforms regarding UI/UX and feature sets, what steps will you take to ensure your app is intuitive, visually appealing, and addresses the key pain points of your target users?

Hi.Events – Open-Source Event Management and Ticketing Platform

07 Jul 2024 Events

Users are impressed with the one-click deployment and ease of use for non-tech individuals. They appreciate the passion behind the project and its feature-rich nature, despite some broken links in guides. The domain cost is considered reasonable. There's interest in the project's goals, its backstory, and improvements over the creator's previous project, Attendize. Hi.Events is seen as a flexible and customizable alternative, inspired by Tito. Questions were raised about the choice of PHP and Laravel for the backend, with the latter chosen for its ecosystem. A beta cloud version is anticipated.

Users reported issues with the product, including broken links in the 2nd and 3rd guides, high domain costs, abandonment by new owners, missed opportunity for a complete rewrite, poor code quality making customization difficult, and cumbersome coupon management and ticket stages aggregation.
