Multiple attempts have failed with clear negative feedback. Continuing down this path would likely waste your time and resources when better opportunities exist elsewhere.

Should You Build It?

Don't build it.

Your are here

Based on the number of similar products we found (6), we have high confidence in our assessment, but this also indicates significant competition. The average number of comments on these similar products is medium (7), which suggests moderate engagement. Unfortunately, we don't have enough data to determine net use or buy signals. Given this context, you're entering a crowded space where user engagement appears moderate, and clear monetization strategies and differentiation are key. Be prepared to address user concerns regarding event accuracy, ad blockers, and browser compatibility, as similar products have faced these issues.

Recommendations

  1. Carefully analyze the negative comments from similar products, particularly Wiwo, to understand the pain points users have experienced with event discovery apps, such as issues with ad blockers, inaccurate event listings, and browser compatibility problems. Use this information to inform your product development and avoid replicating these mistakes.
  2. Given the challenges faced by Wiwo regarding ad blockers, consider alternative monetization strategies that don't rely on disabling ad blockers. Explore options such as premium features, partnerships with venues, or non-intrusive advertising methods that respect user privacy and preferences.
  3. Based on feedback from Bardar, plan for geographic expansion beyond your initial target market, but prioritize cities based on user demand and market research. Start by focusing on one or two key regions and then scale gradually as you gather more data and refine your product.
  4. Focus on user experience by ensuring the app is compatible with different browsers and devices, as reported by Wiwo's users who struggled with Safari and Brave browsers. Invest in thorough testing and optimization to ensure a seamless experience across all platforms.
  5. Implement robust event verification and curation processes to ensure event listings are accurate and up-to-date. Consider incorporating user feedback mechanisms to allow users to report inaccuracies or outdated information. Poor event accuracy was a key concern for Wiwo's users.
  6. Explore potential partnerships with local bars, taverns, and breweries to access real-time event information and offer exclusive deals or promotions to app users. This can help differentiate your app and provide added value to both users and venues.
  7. Consider incorporating AI-powered event data parsing to automatically extract event details from various sources, as suggested by Wiwo's users. This can help streamline the event listing process and improve accuracy. But keep in mind accuracy issues are frequent with AI too.
  8. Refine your UI to ensure it is visually appealing and user-friendly, addressing the concerns raised about Bardar's stretched font. Conduct user testing to gather feedback on the design and make necessary adjustments.

Questions

  1. How will you ensure event accuracy and prevent outdated or incorrect information from being displayed in your app, addressing a key pain point identified in similar products?
  2. What alternative monetization strategies will you employ to avoid reliance on disabling ad blockers, which has been a significant point of contention for users of similar apps?
  3. How will you differentiate your app from existing event discovery platforms, given the high level of competition in this space, and what unique value proposition will you offer to users and venues?

Bardar - Make the most of every night out

07 May 2024 Live Music Events Maps

Bardar is a new map app that connects nightlife patrons to venues and events in real-time. Initially based in Sydney, we display over 350 bars, pubs and nightclubs along with info about these venues such as what's on, ticketed events and live busyness data.

The Product Hunt launch received positive feedback, with users congratulating the team and expressing excitement about the concept and live map feature. Many users requested expansion to new cities, particularly Melbourne and other locations outside Australia, and some asked about global nightlife integration. Suggestions included promoting the tool in Sydney. Users inquired about commercialization strategies, such as venue payments or subscriptions. One user likened it to 'Waze for going out' and another asked if it was applicable to Geo Cities.

The Product Hunt launch received criticism for not including Melbourne, Australia. Users also expressed concerns about the stretched font, finding it visually unappealing. Furthermore, the suggestion of applicability to Geo Cities led some to question the product's scope and relevance to modern web development or broader applications.

Wiwo – Find events happening around you. Google Maps, but for events.

21 Feb 2024 Events

Hey everyone in the USA!I'm developing a map-based event discovery platform that helps people find unique and exciting events in their city or area. I imagine that it could help young locals who are searching what is to be attended in their area & tourists who are visiting and want to find what to do in the area. But before I unleash it on the world, I need your help! One major pain point that I am trying to solve is information overload and difficulty in discovering relevant events nearby. Traditionally, people might rely on social media, local newspapers, or word-of-mouth to find events happening around them. These methods can be:Scattered: Information is spread across different sources, making it time-consuming to search. Unfiltered: Showing a large amount of events, not necessarily relevant to individual interests. Limited information: Often lacking key details like event descriptions, schedules, or ticket options. So my MVP address these issues by:Aggregating: Bringing together event information from multiple sources in one place. Personalization: Using filters and user preferences to recommend relevant events. Visualization: Displaying events on a map, allowing users to discover events based on location and proximity. Detailed information: Providing comprehensive descriptions and links to purchase tickets. What other features I plan to build: Build-in resell marketplace, own event upload, live-streaming, PPV and more. However I find it difficult to get any feedback on the platform. I've tried paid ads, posting to other Early Adopters websites, personally reaching out to people, who I think are target users, but do not get any meaningful feedback. So I'm eager to hear your honest opinions:What works well in the platform? What needs improvement? Are there any features you'd like to see added?Your feedback will be invaluable in shaping the future of Wiwo!P.S. For now only US users are needed, as other won't find events in their areas :)

Users report issues with adblockers affecting map visibility and functionality, confusion over event locations, and browser compatibility problems. There's interest in AI for event data parsing and requests for better accuracy in event listings. Some users are happy with the idea and execution but suggest UI improvements and more features. Challenges with maintaining event sources and regional availability are noted. Users are reluctant to disable adblockers and there are reports of errors, particularly for non-US locations.

Users criticize the product for requiring an AdBlocker to be disabled to access the map, with frequent requests to do so. The event map has issues with unclear locations, inaccessibility, and compatibility with browsers like Safari and Brave. There are concerns about privacy due to unnecessary third-party IP usage, and the platform's visibility is inconsistent. Users also note incomplete event listings, a lack of explanation for the map page, and a need for better filters and color icons. The monetization strategy is questioned, and there are reports of functionality issues on mobile and in non-US regions.

Personalization: Using filters and user preferences to recommend relevant events. Visualization: Displaying events on a map, allowing users to discover events based on location and proximity. Detailed information: Providing comprehensive descriptions and links to purchase tickets.I've already showed the the platform here on Hacker News once and the feedback that we've got, we've tried to implement. Some pain points then were:- The major one was that the map did not load if your AdBlocker was active (fixed now) - ESC closes the current window you just clicked to open - Different color icons for music/events - Filter by upcoming periods (next week, next month, next year) - Search now transfers you to the location of the event that you've clicked - There were only events in the US, now there are events in following countries: ("US" "CA" "IE" "GB" "AU" "NZ" "MX" "AE" "AT" "BE" "DE" "DK" "ES" "FI" "NL" "NO" "PL" "SE" "CH" "CZ" "IT" "FR" "ZA" "TR") - On mobile: Fixed bottom app bar to be more meaningful - Big improvements into the loading time of the mapSo I'm eager to hear your honest opinions:What works well in the platform? What needs improvement? Are there any features you'd like to see added?Maybe some of those:- Real-Time Event Popularity - How crowded an event is in real-time to help users decide where to go - Build-in resell marketplace - Option to sell a ticket that you already own if you cannot attend the event - Adding own events - Live-streaming and PPV/ Virtual Event Attendance - Personalized Event Recommendations - Create groups of people with whom to go to given event - User Reviews and Ratings - Event Reminders - Transportation Options - Weather Integration - In-App Ticket Purchasing - Gamification - Event Discovery through Images - Audio Search - Social media sharing functionalityYour feedback will be invaluable in shaping the future of the platform!Peace!P.S.There is an easter egg currently on the platform. Maybe you could find it?Hint: Search there, where no one is searching and go there, where no one is going. Hint2: Do it on a PC!Play It Loud!
