I wanna build a recruiting plataform that offers a better experience ...

...for the candidate.

Confidence
Engagement
Net use signal
Net buy signal

Idea type: Freemium

People love using similar products but resist paying. You’ll need to either find who will pay or create additional value that’s worth paying for.

Should You Build It?

Build but think about differentiation and monetization.

Your are here

You're entering a crowded space with your recruiting platform idea. Our analysis shows 12 similar products, indicating high competition, so you need to differentiate. The good news is, similar products tend to get medium engagement. Based on the IDEA CATEGORY 'Freemium', people generally like using these tools, but getting them to pay is a challenge. The lack of strong positive 'buy' signals in similar ventures underscores this. It seems like people are happy to use free features, but you'll need to identify what would compel them to upgrade. Focus on identifying the core value proposition that justifies a premium offering and makes your platform stand out from the free options and competitors.

Recommendations

  1. Begin by identifying which user segments derive the most value from the free aspects of your platform. Understand their pain points and how your platform alleviates them. Use surveys, interviews, and analytics to gather insights into their needs and usage patterns.
  2. Develop premium features tailored to these high-value user segments that significantly enhance their experience. These features could include advanced analytics, team collaboration tools, priority support, or integrations with other HR platforms. Make sure to create tangible value that justifies the cost.
  3. Explore charging teams or organizations instead of individual candidates. Companies are often willing to pay for tools that streamline their recruiting process, improve candidate quality, or reduce hiring costs. This aligns with the needs expressed in some similar product discussions.
  4. Consider offering personalized help or consulting services as a premium offering. This could include resume reviews, interview coaching, or career counseling. According to user feedback of similar product, focusing on providing value for international job seekers in specific countries could be a good idea.
  5. Implement A/B testing with different pricing models and feature combinations on small user groups. Analyze the data to determine the optimal pricing strategy that maximizes revenue without sacrificing user adoption. Pay attention to the criticism that existing resume builders can be ineffective and costly.
  6. Based on criticism from similar products, prioritize a clean, intuitive UI/UX. Ensure the platform is user-friendly and visually appealing. Also, focus on creating ATS-friendly resume export functionality to ensure compatibility with recruitment systems.
  7. Address the lack of trust. Avoid misleading claims and ensure testimonials are authentic. Focus on transparency and build trust with your user base through honest marketing and clear communication. One of the reviewed product was criticized for testimonials that were fake AI-generated people. Don't go there!
  8. Implement user feedback mechanisms and actively solicit feedback from your users. Continuously iterate on your platform based on their suggestions and pain points. This will help you ensure that you are providing a valuable and user-friendly experience. One user's review of a similar product mentioned that a good feature would be resume upload and autofill.

Questions

  1. Given that similar platforms have faced criticism regarding the quality of AI integration, how will you ensure that the AI aspects of your platform provide genuine, demonstrable value to users beyond just superficial features?
  2. Considering the mixed reactions to existing online resume builders in terms of cost and effectiveness, what specific strategies will you employ to deliver superior value and justify a premium price point for your platform's paid features?
  3. With several similar recruiting platforms already available, what unique capabilities or focus areas (e.g., specific industries, candidate demographics, or job types) will you emphasize to differentiate your platform and attract a loyal user base?

The x-axis represents the overall feedback each product received. This is calculated from the net use and buy signals that were expressed in the comments. The maximum is +1, which means all comments (across all similar products) were positive, expressed a willingness to use & buy said product. The minimum is -1 and it means the exact opposite.

The y-axis captures the strength of the signal, i.e. how many people commented and how does this rank against other products in this category. The maximum is +1, which means these products were the most liked, upvoted and talked about launches recently. The minimum is 0, meaning zero engagement or feedback was received.

The sizes of the product dots are determined by the relevance to your idea, where 10 is the maximum.

Your idea is the big blueish dot, which should lie somewhere in the polygon defined by these products. It can be off-center because we use custom weighting to summarize these metrics.

I built this AI supported career product, so you don´t get rejected

Coming from the candidate perspective, I can say that I got rejected many times myself, and I believe there is a difference between finding a job and your ideal job. Also, I am pretty nerdy, so I wanted to see if I could transfer 20+ years of recruiting experience to one website and our product. Also, I wanted to know if I can build this. As I do this as a side hustle, it needed to be fast. So, I got a cooperation partner who covered my weak spots as I am more of a techie. Our career product resulted from 9 months of nerdy time with my colleague, a psychologist, and me, a recruiting lead. Also, it helped us to enhance our content with easier words. To get the website going, I used different AI tools. For our Blog, I used a combination of Chatgpt 4.0, Neuroflash for SEO, and Grammarly for correction purposes. Lastly, I used Midjourney to create new pictures that are not stock to avoid standard pictures. As a backend, I decided to go with Learnworlds as it already integrated many tools to enhance the experience. Why am I doing this? I want to give (international) job seekers access to the German job market and help our industry flourish with talented and gifted individuals who immigrate to Germany, as my grandfather did in the 1970s.What do you think?

Users criticized the product for misspellings, poor quality, and misleading claims. The sales video was noted as good but in need of editing. There were complaints about the audible auto-play feature, with one user closing the page to avoid waking a child. The product's focus on building a career for international job seekers in Germany was acknowledged. Questions were raised about the AI aspect of the course, with some users feeling that the AI lacks actual value. One comment was flagged for review.

Users criticized the product for misspellings and poor quality, with misleading AI claims being a significant concern. The need for an editor or proofreader was emphasized, and there were complaints about audible auto-play features. The sound quality was described as disturbing, and the AI component of the course was deemed unclear and superficial.

I made a platform to help modernise candidate outreach

27 Apr 2024 Human Resources Hiring

You are probably familiar with this: "Hey x, I have a great opportunity at company y and I think you would be a fantastic fit. This company is [all the buzzwords] + [insert rocket emojis]",... right?I usually get bombarded by standard LinkedIn message such as the one from above, all with a slight twist but essentially the same, not a lot of info, I have to do a lot of research around the company, culture etc., I'm sure you know the drill. One thing that I always appreciated the most is when I was sent a candidate info pack. It made my life so much more easier, because I could get a high level sense of the company, right off the bat - however it's a pain to put these together and to be frank, it's a tad outdated to say the least as there's no interactivity to it.After talking with a few recruiters, I came up with the idea that is now Role.so. It's my take on trying to improve the generic candidate outreach methods. What is Role.so? It's a no-code candidate pack builder (think micro-sites/landing pages) that can be personalised at scale and offer an interactive way for companies and talent partners to present a role and attract candidates. It's a win-win for both parties. For candidates: A comprehensive way to learn more about a company and a role, while also reducing friction for them to take action, be that continuing the chat or simply declining. For companies and talent partners: valuable data (reason for declining is a big one!), a way to present their company culture, benefits, interview process etc. but almost above all is the fact that candidates are basically self-filtering themselves - that's a lot of time and money saved. There is a demo of course on the site or you can go directly here: https://role.so/demo but don't miss the video on the homepage - it was probably one of the most fun part of building this project :)I could probably speak lengths about this project as I'm quite passioned about it, however I tried to pack everything on the site. So, instead of repeating what's already there, I would just be happy to answer any questions in the comments.Any thoughts or feedback on this would be highly appreciated.Thank you!P.S. If anyone is interested in the stack it's: Next.js with server components (was a good time to deep dive on this), Tailwind CSS for everything UI, Supabase as BaaS, SimpleAnalytics for the stats, Stripe for everything payments and Vercel for hosting.

Clean design, good job!

Free Resume Builder - A resume builder that wants you to get a job

26 May 2024 Productivity Career

Build a resume that recruiters like to see. This resume builder was inspired by advice from actual recruiters for Fortune 500 companies. It costs nothing to use and helps you build a resume that lands you a job.

The resume builder is praised for being intuitive, user-friendly, and free, offering modern, ATS-friendly templates. Users appreciate the quick resume creation and the absence of email or subscription requirements for downloads. The tool is seen as valuable for job seekers, particularly those laid off, with some drawing inspiration from Fortune 500 companies. Suggestions include integrating GPT-4o, adding font/color customization, and focusing on LinkedIn for user acquisition. The UI's simplicity and live preview feature are also well-received.

Users suggest enhancing the product through integrations and more customization options like font and color choices. A key concern revolves around the ineffectiveness and high cost of existing online resume builders. A critical feature request is the ability to export resumes in an Applicant Tracking Software (ATS)-friendly format to ensure compatibility with recruitment systems.

I made an AI Recruiter to give every candidate a voice

I created this application in response to the frustration of experiencing recruiter ghosting behaviour. Conversely, recruiters also face the challenge of efficiently reviewing and responding to every candidate application. This application aims to alleviate this issue to some extent. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Users expressed concerns about the authenticity of testimonials, questioned how the service differs from horeca-jobs.gr, and noted that the app addresses issues of recruiter ghosting and response efficiency.

The main criticism is that the testimonials are by fake AI-generated people.

I created a tool to help engineers/developers get a job more easily

14 Aug 2024 Hiring Career

Hi everyone, my name is Pedro. I’ve built a tool to help mostly tech guys such as developers and engineers on getting a job or at least secure a job interview more easily and quickly.I started building this tool because my gf runs a recruitment/reallocation agency and was spending a lot of time tailoring each customer’s resume to match the job positions they were applying for. And it really worked! After sending a few emails and job applications, our candidates began receiving interviews invitations and job offers. So basically this tool takes the customer’s resume and the job description of the position they want to apply for, then generates a new, tailored resume with matching keywords, so this helps the customer become one of the top candidates for that position. It’s pretty straightforward. As a SWE, I tried to deploy this tool to prod so I could share it with others and make it public. I´d really appreciate it if you could test it out and give me some roast. Everyone gets 3 free credits upon signing up (sorry about the signup thing, but it’s a hassle to remove it). Thanks a lot for your feedback!

The tool is designed to help tech professionals tailor their resumes for job applications. Users have congratulated the team on the launch and requested additional features such as video scrubbing and speed control.

Users criticized the requirement for signup, finding it potentially cumbersome. Additionally, they requested the addition of video scrubbing and speed control features.
